Motion Index

Motion patterns indexed by emotion and intent.

About

Motion design has a categorisation problem. Existing references organise animations by their mechanical type — easing curves, spring physics, duration ranges. That's useful for implementation. It's not useful for design decisions.

The question a designer actually asks is: what does this moment in the product feel like, and what motion should carry that feeling?

Motion Index answers that question. 80+ patterns, organised by emotion (confidence, delight, urgency, calm, surprise) and intent (confirm, reject, reveal, transition, load, emphasise). Each pattern includes the implementation spec, a live preview, and notes on when it works and when it doesn't.
